How to get married on Final Fantasy XIV Online: everything you need to know

Among the many things that can be done in Final Fantasy XIV Online, a wedding could not be missing. The Ceremony of Eternal Bonding, as the name implies, is nothing more than a ritual to profess your eternal devotion to another player. But how exactly does it work and what are the advantages of the ceremony? Let’s find out in this article how to get married in Final Fantasy XIV: Online.

Requirements and benefits of getting married in Final Fantasy XIV

First, it is important to know that Eternal Bonding has no limitations. You can marry anyone regardless of race, gender, class, or Grand Company. In addition, the game will allow you to cancel your wedding, so if you find that your partner is not the one you hoped to share your adventure with, you will have the opportunity to marry another player.

Nonetheless, to participate in the ceremony it is necessary to meet some requirements:

  • Both you and your partner must be part of the same server.
  • You both need to have at least a level 50 class.
  • You both must have completed the level 17 Main Scenario Quest “The Scions of the Seventh Dawn“.
  • Both of you must own A Realm Reborn in its full version, with an active subscription, and not the Trial version.

As for the advantages, in addition to the possibility of organizing and sharing a unique event with friends, there are many special items that you will only obtain by getting married. Let’s see whch ones.

Ceremony of Eternal Bonding – Plans and Costs

Before getting to the quest that will unlock the ceremony, a few steps are required, which I will explain below.

First, connect to the Mog Station with the active account containing the character you wish to marry. Then visit the Final Fantasy XIV Online Store and select the “Eternal Bond” category. You will find three different options. The Ceremony of Eternal Bonding is in fact completely free, but if you want additional options there will also be paid plans.

Promise of Innocence (Standard)

This is the simplest and completely free option. You will receive the following items: wedding dress (which cannot be dyed), wedding cake, emote /embrace, a new haircut, and the standard wedding options.

  • WARNING! The haircut cannot be used by Hrothgar or Viera (both male and female).

Promise of Passion (Gold)

This option will cost 10 dollars. In addition to everything that will be delivered to you with the Standard package, you will have more: the possibility of dyeing your wedding dresses, a two-seater mount, the Ceremony Chocobo, a special minion for your guests, the Demon Box, new cutscenes and decorations for the ceremony, and additional background music.

In addition, you will have the possibility to book the ceremony one hour in advance compared to the standard plan.

Promise of Devotion (Platinum)

This option will cost 20 dollars. It will contain all the items from the Standard and Gold packages, plus another set of wedding dresses with unique details, more choice in the colors of the decorations of the ceremony and the possibility to book it two hours in advance of the Standard plan and one hour in advance of the Gold.

What is the Promise Wristlet and how to use it

Once you have purchased the plan you like best, you will receive a “Promise Wristlet” via the Delivery Moogle in the game. Don’t fret if the letter is delayed, there is always the possibility that you may have to wait a little longer due to system overload.

Both players will have to go through the same process and buy (possibly) the same plan. If you decide to buy both bracelets yourselves, however, remember to give the first to your partner and only then buy the second.

In fact, the game will not allow you to buy two if you already have one in your inventory. The bracelets will become “Untradable” only after accepting the quest “The Ties that Bind“. Until then you can decide to give it to a friend for his wedding, or give it to your partner.

In the event that your partner has accidentally purchased a different bracelet than yours, the one with the lowest value will take effect: for example, if you have purchased the Gold plan and your partner the Standard one, the ceremony will automatically be Standard.

Quest “The Ties that Bind”

The moment you redeem your Promise Wristlet, the real fun begins. Form a party, and when you’re finally a pair in name and in fact, put on your bracelets and head together to the East Shroud, where you’ll notice a new level 50 quest at the Sanctum of the Twelve (X:17.5 – Y:18.2). Go there and talk to Claribel to start “The Ties that Bind“.

The quest will take you some time, but since you’re ready to spend eternity together, that shouldn’t be a problem, right?

At the end you will receive the Eternity Cake, which is nothing more than an indoor furniture, and 99 Magicked Prisms (Wings), perfect for the future photographic set. When you talk to the nearby Ceremony Outfitter, you will instead unlock the wedding dress (you can choose between the male and female versions), the emote /embrace and a new haircut that will be immediately available from the Aesthetician, provided you have completed the level 15 quest “Beauty Is Only Scalp Deep“, which will unlock the service.

  • Warning: if in the future you wish to replace your wedding dress with a female or male one, you can do so simply by speaking to the Calamity Salvager in Limsa Lominsa, Gridania, or Ul’dah.

How to obtain the Flawless Band

The next step of the quest “The Ties that Bind” is a bit more complex, however. You will need to get a “Flawless Band“, which will be your wedding ring, still devoid of its powers (which I will talk about later). To do this you have three options:

  • Craft two Flawless Bands yourself with a level 25 Goldsmith.
  • Buy the rings at the Market Board.
  • Buy the rings from Sileas in Ul’dah – Steps of Thal, Eshtaime’s Aesthetics (X:10 – Y:12.5) for a good 30,000 gil, by selecting “Purchase Battle Accessories“.

Continue with the quest choosing the options you prefer and return to Claribel in the East Shroud. Your pilgrimage will thus begin, andi t must be completed without disbanding the party. Once you have visited the locations for the blessing of the gods, the next step will be the preparations.

The quest will let you access the Ivory Chapel where, speaking with the Ceremony Attendand, you will finally be able to choose the style of the ceremony, the decorations and the background music, watching the preview cutscenes.

Great! The wedding is ready. Make sure you have at least one free slot in your inventory and choose the date and time by talking to Etoinelle outside the chapel (and remembering that it’s a real date and time!) and dedicate yourself to the guests.

How to choose date and time for the ceremony

The choice of date and time is perhaps one of the most important issues. As already mentioned, before talking to Etoinelle make sure you have at least one free slot in your inventory and keep an eye on the server maintenance times to avoid them.

Ceremony reservations must be made at least one week prior to the event, starting every Friday at 3 (PST)/4 (PDT) for the following week, always starting Friday at 3 (PST)/4 (PDT). For those on the Gold and Platinum plans, reservations will start respectively one and two hours prior to the event, that is to say from 2 (PST)/3 (PDT) and 1 (PST)/2 (PDT).

This means that from one to a maximum of two weeks can pass between the booking and the wedding, the time necessary to notify the guests and prepare adequately. If you realize you have chosen the wrong day or time, you will not be able to change the reservation and you will have to wait until the following Friday (when reservations will reopen) to postpone it, but only from 4am (PST). This time restriction will be removed if you wait two weeks before setting a new date.

Remember to have the Blank Invitations in your inventory when you show up at Etoinelle on the day and time of the wedding, to wear the Promise Wristlet and to have a free slot in your inventory for the future Eternity Ring. In case you don’t have a free slot, the wedding will be postponed.

Invitations and guests

Once the date and time of the wedding has been decided, Etoinelle will give you a Blank Invitation. This item, when used, will produce invitations for the ceremony. You can produce a maximum of 40 invitations, and therefore invite 40 people each, for a total of 80 guests.

You can decide to deliver the invitations by hand, with the Trade option, or send them via the Delivery Moogle present in each city-state. Remember that only people from your server can participate in the wedding, and that they must have the invitation in their inventory in order to access the Ivory Chapel on the day and at the established time.

  • Note: if you talk to the Ceremony Outfitter again in the East Shroud, you will be able to buy more Prisms, different from the ones you already received, to keep for yourself or to give to your guests.

In case you are a guest and you have no idea what to wear to such an important event, the game provides you with some special dresses, which can be purchased from Rianne in Ul’dah – Steps of Nald (X:9.8 – Y:9.0) by selecting “Purchase Novelty Gear“, or at the Market Board, or crafted with the level 50 Weaver and Leatherworker.

Guests must arrive within 20 minutes of the ceremony start time at the Sanctum of the Twelve, East Shroud, and access the waiting room by speaking to Etoinelle (X:17.7 – Y:15.7).

In case of the Gold and Platinum weddings, the guests will also be entitled to a little gift: they will in fact receive the minion Demon Box.

What is the Eternity Ring and how does it work?

At the end of the ceremony, the Flawless Ring of the two spouses will become the Eternity Ring and will obtain special powers. The ring allows you to teleport wherever your partner is, and has a 30-minute cooldown each time it is used.

FF14 - Eternal Ring

To use it, you don’t have to equip it (although it’s still a nice piece of glamour!). Just place it in your hotbar, very similar to the Return. Also in this case, it is good to be aware of the limitations of this little gem, in order to avoid unpleasant inconveniences:

  • The ring will not work if your partner is offline at the time you use it, is KOed, is in an Instanced Area, or is visiting another server.
  • While the ring teleports you to the exact location your partner is at, you still need to have the closest aetheryte unlocked. If, on the other hand, your partner is in an area of the map where it is possible to fly, you will need to have unlocked the flight requirements of that same area in order to reach him.
  • If you have the flying requirements unlocked but your partner is flying at the time you use the ring, it will automatically teleport you to the nearest aetheryte.

How to get a divorce in Final Fantasy XIV Online

If you wish to cancel your wedding, during the preparations or after the ceremony, you are free to do so. It’s a very simple process, in fact you just need to talk to the Sanctum Acolyte in the East Shroud (X:17.7 – Y:18.3) and decide to give him your Eternity Ring, or – if the ceremony is still to take place – your Promise Wristlet.

This procedure, if not implemented by both partners, will in any case annul the marriage for whoever decides to do so. The partner who delivered the ring or bracelet to the Sanctum Acolyte will immediately be free to marry someone else.

However, the player who did not turn in the ring will still have the teleport available and can use it to teleport to the closest aetheryte to her ex-husband or ex-wife.

By divorcing, all the items received for the ceremony, with the exception of the ring or bracelet, will not be lost in any case.

Quest and anniversary surprise

Congrats! A year of marriage is certainly a milestone and, in the hope that you are still a happy couple, the game will reward you. Indeed, on your anniversary day the quest “The Ties that Bind” will become available again in the East Shroud and will remain so for an unlimited period of time.

Unlike the first time you accepted it, the quest “The Ties that Bind” will simply have you repeat the ceremony, but this time by handing you a Platinum Promise Wristlet. This means that regardless of what your choice has been in the past, you will have all the options of the Platinum plan except for the two-seater mount, the alternative wedding dress and the haircut. Guests, on the other hand, will still receive the Demon Box minion.
